Meaghan Helen (Director): Meaghan has been dancing for twenty two years (Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop) and has over nineteen years of experience with Highland Dance. She began her competitive career at the age of seven and still continues to compete at competitions across North America. Meaghan danced in Guelph ON, and began assisting teaching classes when she turned fourteen. At the age of sixteen Meaghan completed her Highland Associates B.A.T.D at which point she began teaching classes on her own. Shortly after Meaghan completed her Highland Members B.A.T.D. and her teaching experience has ranged from ages three to adult. As well Meaghan is a certified Lifeguard and has worked at camps and local YMCA's teaching swimming to children. Meaghan's accomplishments include Best Guelph District Dancer 1998, Dancer of the Year ( M.E.C School of Highland Dance 1996, 1998, and 2001) several overall trophies and many awards. Meaghan has danced with the infamous Tartan Terrors which performed at the River Run Center in Guelph, and as well has performed at several shows and festivals across Ontario. In 2011 Meg competed in the ScotDance Canada Championship Series in Antigonish Nove Scotia. Now retired from competing, Meg is pleased to pass on the tradition of Highland Dance to her students. Meaghan completed her (hons) B.A. Degree in English Literature from U.W.O. in 2007 and completed her Masters in Library Science Degree from U.W.O. in 2012. Meaghan founded the Meaghan Helen School of Highland Dance in 2008 (now the Kitchener-Waterloo Highland Dance Co.) to promote fitness, the love of Highland Dance, and friendly competition.
Naomi (Director): Naomi has had over twenty three years of Highland Dancing experience. Naomi began Highland dance in Guelph ON, and competed in competitions across North America and the UK. Naomi is a fully qualified Highland B.A.T.D. Member and has over 11 years of experience teaching dancers aged three to adult both in Ontario and Quebec. She is the recipient of several awards and trophies both in North America and Overseas. Naomi has also danced with the infamous Tartan Terrors which performed at the River Run Center in Guelph, and as well has performed at several shows and festivals across Ontario and Quebec. A highlight of her teaching experience includes accompanying one of her dancers to the Interprovincial Highland Dance Championships in 2008, as a provincial representative of Quebec. Naomi is a (hons.) B.A. graduate from Bishop’s University and has completed her Bachelor of Education from Wilfrid Laurier University. Currently, Naomi is a French Immersion and Core French Teacher with The Upper Grand District School Board.
Amanda (Teacher): Amanda has been dancing for over 19 years (Ballet and Highland). She began highland dancing in Guelph ON, and has been assisting teaching classes since she was fourteen. Amanda has experience competing and dancing at shows across Ontario. She also performed with the Tartan Terrors. She has completed all dance exams up to the B.A.T.D. associate exam and is working on taking this exam in the upcoming year. Amanda just recently completed her Bachelor of Accounting from Brock University. She is currently working at PwC as an external auditor and studying to write the professional exams to obtain a Chartered Accountant (CA) designation.
Rachel (Assistant Teacher): Rachel is from Guelph ON. Rachel has several years of experience in Highland, Ballet, and Modern Dance. Rachel has experience competing and dancing at shows across North America. Recently, Rachel has successfully completed her Highland Associates B.A.T.D and is enjoying helping teach dancers of all ages and skill levels. Now a graduate of the nursing program at UWO Rachel is a registered nurse in Guelph.
Dutch the Dog: Dutch is the K-W Highland Dance Company mascot! Dutch is Meaghan and her husband's 5 year old cockapoo and he loves highland dance almost as much as Meaghan!
